Tucked beneath towering palms and lush garden pathways in the heart of Lodi wine country, Wine & Roses offers a boutique resort experience that feels both elevated and deeply relaxing. First Impressions

One of the first things I noticed was how peaceful the property felt.

The grounds are incredibly lush, with tropical plants, mature trees, flowers, fountains, and garden pathways wrapping around nearly every building. Walking through the resort almost felt like wandering through a botanical garden.

Where Wine Country Slows Down

The Guest Rooms

The Rooms are spacious and quiet.  I have the pleasure of staying in three seperate rooms over the course of two weeks and each one had its own charm, yet there was a consistency.  The beds are very comfortable and during cold evenings, the fireplace provides an intimate warmth.  Patios are situated among tropical plants that set a great theme when paired with the cawing of parrots and other birds in birdcages placed throughout the property.  The large bathtubs also makes it easy to unwind when retreating to your room.

Pool & Fitness Spaces

The pool area perfectly matched the relaxed atmosphere found throughout the property.

There were plenty of comfortable lounge chairs, shaded seating areas, and tropical landscaping surrounding the pool, but it never felt crowded or overly busy.

Instead, the entire space felt calm and peaceful.

I could easily picture spending an entire afternoon there with a book, a drink, and absolutely nowhere else to be.

Poolside Atmosphere

One thing I really appreciated was how private the pool area still felt despite being centrally located within the resort.

The landscaping naturally separates the seating spaces, which helps the entire area feel more intimate and quiet.

Fitness Center

The fitness center was another pleasant surprise.

A lot of boutique hotels include tiny gyms that feel more like an afterthought, but the gym at Wine & Roses was actually spacious, clean, and well equipped.

There were cardio machines, free weights, strength equipment, stretching areas, and plenty of room to comfortably work out.

The large windows overlooking the pool area also made the space feel bright and welcoming instead of closed off.

Café, Cocktails & Food Experience

The on-property restaurant is truly special.  The cozy bar is accentuated with a fireplace and a grand piano that most evenings is played by an accomplished pianist.  The coctails are well thought out and balanced with a great selection of local wines and craft beers.   The food selection will not disappoint. Whether it is a cheese plate appetizer or a fillet, everything looked thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented.

The café quickly became one of my favorite spots on the property.

Instead of basic hotel pastries and coffee, the displays were filled with fresh baked goods, artisan breads, muffins, pastries, and breakfast items that felt much more like a local bakery than a hotel café.

Stopping in for coffee in the morning became part of the overall experience instead of just a quick convenience.

Traveling With a Dog

One thing that really stood out during the stay was how naturally pet-friendly the property felt.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with a care package with a dog bowl, bottled water, dog treats, and waste bags.

The shaded walkways, outdoor seating areas, and spacious grounds made it incredibly easy to enjoy the resort with a dog.

It never felt restrictive or inconvenient.

In fact, the relaxed atmosphere of the property made it feel like dogs belonged there just as much as the guests.

For anyone looking for a wine-country getaway without leaving their dog at home, Wine & Roses does an excellent job balancing luxury with comfort and accessibility.

Final Thoughts

After spending time at Wine & Roses, I kept thinking the same thing: why aren’t more people talking about Lodi? While Napa and Sonoma often get most of the attention, Wine & Roses offers a completely different kind of wine-country experience — one that feels quieter, slower, and far more relaxed. The resort combines boutique accommodations, lush tropical landscaping, excellent food and drinks, and peaceful outdoor spaces without the crowds or constant rush that can come with larger wine destinations. It felt authentic in a way that many heavily commercialized resorts no longer do.

California has no shortage of luxury resorts, but Wine & Roses stands out because it feels personal rather than oversized. The property embraces a slower, more intimate version of wine-country travel built around gardens, outdoor spaces, relaxed dining, and peaceful accommodations. Instead of feeling like a crowded destination resort, it feels more like a tucked-away retreat where guests can genuinely recharge. From the tropical landscaping and quiet pool area to the comfortable rooms and relaxed cocktail spaces, the experience felt warm, approachable, and refreshingly authentic.
